What’s On – Friday 1st April

Message from Mrs. Castell

Dear Parents

I can hardly believe we have come to the end of another term. It has been extremely challenging with Covid-related absence affecting staff and families and I thank you as ever for your support. Our staff have been fantastic, often at short notice switching roles and covering for each other. We have also been so fortunate to be able to have parents in the school for events after a two year break! It was lovely to see so many of you at the book-looks and parents evening meetings this week and your kind words are very much appreciated by our staff.

WISPA Easter Bonnet Competition
Thank you to WISPA for organising our wonderful Easter bonnet competition. As usual these competitions were very difficult to judge but the winners are: Hayden in Squirrels, Felix in Foxes, Hollie in Parrots, Amy in Turtles, Daria in Sharks and Alma in Dolphins.

Teddy Lympics
Many thanks to the staff, led by Mrs Scott-Simons, who took some of Year 1 children to the Teddy Lympics on Wednesday. We were delighted with a first and seventh place for our teams and also to Farrah and Franklyn who achieved first place overall in their events. We are very proud!

WISPA Mini Marathon
Sponsorship forms for the WISPA Mini Marathon have been sent home today in book bags. All children will take part on Friday 6th May, when we will also have a visit from an elite athlete who will hopefully inspire us all! The aim is to complete 26 laps of the playground, equivalent to 1 mile per child and a whole 26 mile marathon for each class. We hope to encourage as many sponsors as possible from family and friends.

Forest school lessons start again in the first full week back, starting with Sharks on Tuesday and Squirrels on Wednesday. Booking details for all before and after school clubs are published on our website and have been sent out via ParentMail.

Have the most wonderful break with your families. We look forward to seeing the children return on Wednesday 20th April. Tuesday 19th is an INSET day - please do not come up to the school as all staff will be in training that day.

Warm regards
Helen Castell

Spring has sprung (almost!) and all of the children (and our Y2 team) are ready for a well-deserved Easter break. They have worked incredibly hard this term and our London’s Burning topic has been the most popular so far! It has really engaged the children and we have seen some inspirational work across the curriculum. We hope they have shared their knowledge and enthusiasm with you. We completed the topic by reading and researching information about the Monument and creating our very own 2022 London Skyline. We also completed our unit on Fractions by learning about unit and non-unit fractions, the equivalence of a half and two quarters, finding three quarters and counting in fractions. We finished the half term with an Easter themed day.

Thank you so much to those we saw on parents evening, it was so lovely to see you in person and discuss your child's progress with you. Those with PCP’s we look forward to seeing you on Thursday in the first week back. This week we have finished our topic ‘How to Find Gold’ and looked at some of the descriptive words used. We have revised our knowledge of counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s ready for after Easter. We have also completed some lovely Easter activities and learned all about the story of Easter. We hope you have a lovely Easter and enjoy your time off.

Foxes class logoWhat an 'eggciting' week we have had! This week we have been learning about Easter. We enjoyed our Easter egg hunt and loved learning how to draw a chick and an Easter bunny. We have also learnt why Christians celebrate Easter. In maths we have revisited all the things we have learnt this term! We have been making Easter cards and practised weaving wool through an egg shape card. We have a fun Easter Tapestry Challenge this week! Don't forget to look at Tapestry to find out what it is!

Have a wonderful Easter break, see you next term.
