Weekly News – Friday 26th April

Dear Parents

Thank you to WISPA for organising today’s cake sale. We are grateful for their time and hope the children enjoyed the Friday goodies!! Every penny raised helps the school to buy extra resources, special events and activities that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to offer the children.

The Duckling Nursery

Congratulations to Mrs Hannah Rodger, who will be familiar to many of you as one of our lovely parents. It was confirmed this week that she will be taking ownership of The Duckling Nursery when Mrs Homer retires. We very much look forward to working with her from September.

Sponsored Reading Challenge

Certificates have been given today to 28 children who have completed our Sponsored Reading Challenge. So far we have raised over £800 in donations for new books for our library, which is an incredible sum. As you know we love to celebrate the children's reading, so they are still welcome to bring in their completed challenges and any sponsorship money.

Additional Snacks

Thank you for providing an extra savoury snack for your child. The children have said it is helping with their concentration in class, so we really appreciate your efforts.

Class Photographs

You should have received information this morning about the class photographs taking place next Thursday. As a reminder, the children should arrive in uniform and bring PE kit or Forest School clothes to change into.

Messy Church

Messy Church is this Sunday 28th April, they are holding a Pet Service from 10am, so bring along your pet or a favourite cuddly toy!

Thank you from Mrs Glennie

Finally, Mrs Glennie would like to say thank you to all the children and families who have sent her such lovely messages this week. We are so sorry to see her go, but she will keep in touch with us and we look forward to seeing her when she visits the school.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes

Tracey Wilson

Essentials for next week

  • Please take a look at our new Clubs and Forest School timetable to ensure that your child has all the clothing/footwear required and they are aware of the after school arrangements.
  • Please try to take good care of our school reading books as they are very expensive. Thank you to parents who have generously replaced books that have been damaged.
  • Our Lost Property box in reception is overflowing. Please check for any missing items  and ensure that you label all clothing and footwear.
  • We are lucky to benefit from many parent helpers in school, as well as governors like Mrs Gentle and Reverend Tony who come to read with the children regularly. If you are interested in volunteering, please speak to the office.
  • Please check the diary dates for details of upcoming events.

Highlights of the week

Year 2

Year 2 have had another busy week! The children have learnt about the fraction half, learnt and used some fabulous words from our new English book, such as 'banished' and improved our 3 Tees Cricket skills. They have also produced some Piet Mondrian style art work.

Year 1

Year 1 have explored what it would be like to be an astronaut and created a space dance in P.E. They wrote facts about the moon and have carried out practical work, thinking about volume and capacity in maths.

Keeping Children Safe

  • Emergency contact details must be up to date. Please email us at parents@writtleinfantschool.com if your details have changed.
  • Any food brought to school must not contain nuts or egg-based foods (e.g. egg mayo, scotch egg, omelette etc.).
