Weekly News – Friday 24th November

Dear Parents

We had a jam-packed Celebration Assembly this morning! Firstly we gave certificates to our Year 1 sporting superstars, who competed in the Teddy Lympics this week. Here is Mrs Scott-Simons’ report: On Wednesday, myself, Miss Wakeling and Mrs Coffey took 16 excited Year 1 children to a Teddy ‘Lympics event at Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre. The children were split into two teams (Green and Pink) and competed against other local schools in a variety of sporting activities such as throwing, jumping and running. They were all amazing and enjoyed themselves very much. We came 1st and 2nd in our afternoon event, which we were very happy about. But, out of a total of 48 Chelmsford schools that took part in the event over a period of three days, our teams came 1st and 6th! Extra congratulations go to two of the team who got an special Super Ted award for their brilliant performance. We are incredibly proud of our children! Well done teams .

We celebrated our Amazing Artists in school today, who have demonstrated their talents in making decorations for the Christmas Tree Festival. This will be held next weekend at All Saints’ Church and it’s the official start of Christmas as far as we’re concerned! We would love you to go along and vote for us during that weekend. We also had lots of achievement certificates from outside school to share this morning and a brilliant short story read by Isabelle from the Junior School. We wish her every success as she has entered the BBC Short Story competition.

Thank you so much for your very generous donations to our Elfridges store, wow what an incredible selection of gifts the children will have to choose from! More information about ticket sales is contained in the WISPA message below.

Year 1 and 2 will receive their beautiful reading books in book bags today – the EYFS books are on their way next week! Please, please, please look after these precious books and make sure that they are returned to school each day. We’re pleased to see an increased number of e-books being accessed at home too, thank you for your engagement. Latest class figures are below, please remember your child’s e-library will build up over time as we add a new book each week.
Sharks: 13/29 – 44%
Dolphins: 14/28 – 50%
Parrots:20/30 – 69%
Turtles:7/31 – 23%
Squirrels: 15/28 – 54%
Foxes: 12/29 – 41%

I was delighted to accompany Sharks class to Writtle Library this week as Essex Libraries begin their Winter Reading Challenge tomorrow. Thank you to Mrs Soden at the library who explained the Challenge to the children. We would like to see as many children as possible sign up for the challenge to develop their love of reading and to show off their certificates in assembly next year! Dolphins visit the library next Thursday morning. Next Friday we will welcome you all into school at 2.45pm to share Christmas/Winter stories with your children – a ParentMail form has been sent home so you can let us know if you can attend.

Next Thursday sees the final Open Evening for parents whose children will start at our school in September 2024. Do please let friends and family know that they can book a place via our website.

Finally, a reminder about Messy Church at 10am, All Saints’ Church this Sunday morning. Last month’s event was a real success and we would love to see even more children there. Year 1 and 2 are also going to Reverend Tony’s Advent Assembly at the church, 9.30am on Monday morning. You are very welcome to join us, but please remember this isn’t a full performance by the children – this will come in a few weeks’ time as we host our Christmas plays. We will send more information about these next week.

Have a great weekend, hope to see you at Messy Church!

Best wishes,

Tracey Wilson
