Message from Mrs. Castell

Dear Parents

What a wonderful time we had at the Year 2 performance yesterday of Tuishi Pamoja! We also celebrated our Year 2 leavers, with every child receiving a special certificate and t-shirt. Thank you to WISPA for funding this, as well as the afternoon performance from magician Nicky Trix who was brilliant as ever. This week

In other news this week, EYFS had their Teddy Bears Picnic which was a great success. We welcomed back Mrs Espinosa Pardo after her maternity leave and she has been getting to know her new class. All children took part in the class swap, meeting their new teachers including Mr Williams in Foxes and Mrs Richardson in Dolphins. Thank you to the staff and children who gave me a lovely assembly this week for my retirement with a contribution from each class. It was amazing and it is starting to be real now that I am leaving!

County Cricket Finals

Team WIS came 12th in the county at the finals today! The children played brilliantly and showed true sportsmanship throughout. They won 2 and lost 4 matches, the losses mainly due to a few sixes from our opponents! The rain changed the plan of the day, so fewer matches were played. Mrs Scott-Simons is super proud of the children! Thank you to Miss Wakeling for accompanying them too.

Clubs

All clubs have now finished for the term. Ducklings also finish today so they are not offering before and after school clubs next week. Please ensure your children are collected at 3.10pm. A timetable of clubs for the Autumn term will be sent out next week.

Word aware

This week's word is transition chosen by Foxes class. Please use this word at home and discuss its meaning with your child.

Bug counting!

There has been a huge decline in the insect population, which could have profound consequences, but there is little formal record keeping. The Bug Life website allows mass participation in observation by counting bugs on your number plate and submitting the results.

Meet the Teacher

For children going into Year 1 or Year 2, there will be an opportunity for you to meet your child’s next teacher in their classroom at 3.15pm on Wednesday. Please let us dismiss the children before you come into the school.

Attendance

Attendance this week is 95.1% compared to our school target of 96%.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards
Helen Castell

Safeguarding

We all have a duty to safeguard the children in our care and if the school suspects or knows that a child is at risk of significant harm, we will make a referral to Social Services. The school does not investigate any disclosures that children may make, we are a referring agency. Procedures on safeguarding from the Government make it clear that all staff should operate with an ‘it could happen here’ approach to any concerns they may have. If you have any concerns about a child please telephone the Essex Child and Families Hub on 0345 603 7627.

Notices

  • A reminder that you can email our Chairs of Governors, Matt Coffey and Esther Burton, at any time at chair@writtleinfantschool.com.
  • As we have children in school with life-threatening allergies, please do not send products containing nuts into school, or egg-based foods such as egg mayo, scotch egg, omelette, frittata etc.
  • Teachers cannot check the class email during the day. Please send urgent messages to parents@writtleinfantschool.com.

Year 2 News

Wow, what a wonderful assembly! We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our Year 2 pupils as they transported us to Africa. It is a pleasure to see how much they have grown in both confidence and independence during their last year with us and their enjoyment shone through. Thank you to WISPA for funding a special treat in the afternoon for all the children. Nicky Trix entertained us with a magic show and the giggles could be heard all around the school! The children had a full morning in the Junior school this week and it was hugely positive - they all came back smiling. Dolphins stayed on for lunch, while Sharks will have their opportunity next Wednesday.

  • Can we please ask you all to bring in a named bag on Monday, so that we can send things home next week.
  • Please look for any books or other school items at home, so that they can be returned next week.
  • The children are very welcome to wear their leavers' t-shirts for the last day on Thursday!
  • If you have anything left to complete on your home learning passport, now is the time! We love to see your work.

Year 1 News

Wow what an excellent year this has been! How sad that it’s our final Year 1 newsletter this year! It’s been such a pleasure to teach your children and see them grow and progress. We’ve had such fun together, from our Christmas show, to the school trip and our end of year performance. This week, the children met their new teachers and spent the morning in their new classes. They had such fun making sharks and dolphins models. They wrote a letter to reception children to give them a heads up of what to expect when they come to Year One. We also revised over key maths calculations such as addition and subtraction. Next week will be a busy and fun week so lots of rest this weekend! Thank you for all of your support this year, we couldn’t ask for a more fabulous group of parents!

If you have any activities left to complete on your home learning passport, we would still love to see your work!

EYFS

We had a lovely week learning about teddies and had such fun on our school trip to Hylands Park. Thank you to everyone that came, it was so wonderful seeing all the children enjoying spending time with their family members, we hope you enjoyed it too. The children spent some time in Year 1 with their new teachers, they made some artwork to go in their new classrooms. We explained that the classrooms will look different in September and that we will be clearing the garden so we can use it next year. Mrs E has been coming into Foxes to play and taught them on Tuesday as well. We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Forest School News

We had a lovely last Forest school session with the Year 2 children on Tuesday. We had s’mores and popcorn, sat around the fire and talked about our most memorable moments of all time while at forest school. We have had the best moments, we have been through all weathers ( snow, ice, extreme cold -7c at one point to extreme heat- you name it we’ve been in it!).
Mrs Stobbie and I shared some ‘ memorable moments’ just a few being when a child got his wellies stuck deep in the mud, but the more the children were trying to rescue him the more the children were all getting stuck in the sinking mud, it was very very funny and a moment we will never forget! Also building a scarecrow with the children was a rather funny experience too.
It has been an absolute pleasure spending time with your children at forest school and we will miss them and wish them all the best in Year 3. We have asked that they keep in contact with us and wave to us when they see us.
We would also like to say a massive thank you to a child that bought a bee hotel for the forest school area, she considered where to put it and we are very thankful for it. We hope you all have the best summer and we will miss you all!
