Weekly News – Friday 18th July

Dear Parents,

This week saw Year 2's Celebration Assembly on Thursday, their Royal Variety Show! As they reflected on their favourite memories from their last year at Writtle Infant School, the talents they displayed and their confidence in performing was a joy to behold. We know they're ready for their next adventure, and we wish them all the very best for Year 3 and beyond. A huge thank you to the parents, families, governors and friends of the school for attending and to our amazing PTA for making our farewells extra special, with t-shirts for all the Year 2 children.

Writtle Euros

All year groups have had enormous fun over the past few weeks playing in the Writtle Euros, inspired by the Women's Euros this year! We've seen great performances, good team work and a lot of emotions! With over 115 children taking part, we held group stages, semi-finals and ended with an England vs Norway final today! The whole school cheered on the teams in a tense and exciting match. Both teams fought really hard and put on a super performance, with great shots and saves being made! After extra time we went to penalty shots, which saw Norway win 1-0! All children showed great sportsmanship thorughout the competition and we are very proud of them. Big congratulations to Norway on their win!

End of Year Thanks

As another school year draws to a close, it's the perfect time to acknowledge the many individuals who make our school such a special place. We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated governors who offer invaluable guidance and ensure we strive for the best education for every child. This has been enhanced by the expertise of our academy trust, as we joined the HIVE Family of Schools in April. The tireless efforts of our PTA have raised thousands of pounds, enriching the learning experiences for children at both schools. Thank you to the busy parents and grandparents who volunteer to organise and run events, and to you all for your generous donations.

Our volunteers – parents, grandparents and friends of the school - give up their time to read with children or assist in class. They are hugely appreciated. Please speak to the school office if you would like to volunteer. We've also welcomed work experience students from local schools, and trainees from Essex Primary SCITT, ARU Writtle and Chelmsford College and we hope to see many of them take up careers in education in future.

Thanks to the many, many people who keep the school running smoothly beyond the classroom: the office team, our site manager Mr Turner, our midday assistants and caterers, Stir Food, the crossing patrol team and school cleaners. The Duckling Nursery and YMCA provide expert care before and after school and the children benefit enormously from extra-curricular teaching from our piano tutor Bonnie and our talented professional coaches in yoga, gymnastics, tennis and football.

Finally, and most importantly, a heartfelt thank you to all our children and staff. You continually demonstrate that Writtle Infant School is a place of hard work, good humour, and compassion.

Best wishes,

Tracey Wilson

Highlights of the week

Year 1

This week we have been reflecting on the fabulous year we have had! We discussed our special memories and the fun times we had.  We also finished off our ‘Grandma Bird’ stories.

Year 2

We've had a fantastic week practising and performing our end of year production, we had such a great time and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

PTA Update

It’s been an incredible year of events and activities!   Through the amazing support of our PTA community, we’ve raised over £11,300 of net profit to the PTA charity fund.  Full details of how the funds have been invested for all our children will be included in the PTA report in September.

Change of name…..

Three years ago, we integrated the activities of the infant and junior school parents’ associations, and last year completed the merger.  To reflect the broader remit of the association, from today your PTA is officially Friends Of Writtle Schools.  Our charity status remains unchanged, as does our full schedule of events and fundraisers for the coming year!

For now we’d like to say a huge thank you to our incredible PTA volunteers for their help delivering events, to all the class reps for keeping everyone informed about PTA activities, and to the school staff who have supported our events.  We wish you all a lovely summer – see you in the Autumn!

Dates for your diary

Last week of September (date & time TBC) - PTA AGM – all parents, guardians, and staff welcome.
