Dear Parents,
Year 1 and Year 2 both had their summer days out this week and what wonderful weather they had! Year 1 enjoyed all the animal encounters at Maldon Promenade Zoo on Monday, while Year 2 managed to keep cool in the shade as they built dens and pond-dipped at the Wilderness Foundation, Chatham Green. We were very proud to receive some wonderful compliments about the children's behaviour at the trips, so thank you to them all for representing the school so well. We’ve seen some amazing work from the children too this week - well done to Nevai for her incredible project on influential women, inspired by our history lesson on Mary Seacole!
Sports Day
Please check ParentMail if you haven't already, as we have let you know which colour team your child will be in for Sports Day next Tuesday. If you do not have the correct coloured t-shirt at home, your child will be provided with a bib or coloured band to wear. Access for parents will be via the green playground gate at the Junior School, the fun starts at 1.15pm. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit, trainers, sun hat and water bottle on this day, plus sunscreen applied before school.
Summer Fair
The Summer Fair is next Saturday 28th June, 11.30 - 2pm. We would love to see as many families as possible there! Thank you for your donations for our dress down day today. Next Friday is also a dress down day in exchange for donations of cakes and sweets. If you can't make the fair, you can still buy raffle tickets to support both schools, there are some amazing prizes to be won!
Reading Books
We are missing a lot of reading books in school as they have not been returned from home. Please have a look at home and return any you find. Many of our sets are now incomplete which means we do not have enough for our reading groups in school and cannot send home books to some children. Please remember you can access e-books through the Collins library, personal login details were emailed to you in December.
Attendance
We continue to monitor attendance rates across the school. Even though an attendance rate of 90% sounds good, you can see from the graphic that it actually equates to 19 days of absence across the year, almost 4 weeks of learning. Please work with us to ensure that children are in school every day, on time. We continue to receive applications for holiday taken in term time. Please be aware that this will always be unauthorised and can lead to further action taken by the Local Authority.
Health Advice
A reminder that every Tuesday afternoon we offer a Health Advice Drop-In service with one of the school-age health practitioners. The team are available in the library for you to discuss any health concerns about your child(ren). Please click here to book an appointment.
Stay cool this weekend. It's Messy Church on Sunday, please take a look at our Community Links page for details.
Best wishes,
Tracey Wilson

EYFS Tapestry Challenge
Highlights of the week
EYFS
The children have coped really well considering the heat. In the garden, we have had lots of water play to keep cool and even made a foot cooling station! Well done everyone.
Year 1
Year 1 loved their trip to Maldon Zoo on Monday. The children learnt about many different animals and some children were even brave enough to stroke some of the animals! They were brilliantly behaved and it was a pleasure to take them on this exciting trip.
Year 2
Year 2 have had a great week, made even better by their fantastic trip out to the Wilderness Foundation, where they explored all things nature in the nice, shady woods!
