What’s On – Friday 19th March

Message from Mrs. Castell

Dear Parents,

The children have continued to settle well into school and we are very proud of them. We have enjoyed seeing their spots and stripes today for Comic Relief and we shared stories of people that have been helped by the charity during assembly. Thank you for your donations to such a worthy cause.

The children have been so excited this week as Chadacre Honey loaned us one of their redundant beehives! They examined the beeswax and honey on the frames and took a look at some of the dead worker bees. Chadacre gave us a jar of honey to taste which was absolutely delicious! There are photos in our Forest School gallery.

We are hugely grateful to WISPA for their Easter fundraising activities for the school. Today is the final day to order your Easter bath bomb kits from The Little Soak Shop - if you enter discount code WRITTLEINFANTS at the point of purchase, then £4 will be donated to the school. Yesterday we sent home details of the Easter Egg Hunt taking place over the holidays. Maps will be sold by WISPA for £2 next week. You can follow the trail around the village and send in your completed entries for a chance to win a prize!

You may be aware that next Tuesday 23rd March is a day of reflection, marking the anniversary of the national lockdown. We will have some age-appropriate activities on that day and will hold a minute's silence at 10am. One silver lining to this incredibly difficult year has been the generosity of spirit shown by so many families. We are very grateful to the parent who has donated a huge amount of hand sanitiser to the school this week; it will certainly keep us going.

As I said in my ParentMail form to you all today, it is vital that families continue to isolate and test at the first sign of any coronavirus symptoms. We have asked you all to let us know if you are using lateral flow testing kits regularly at home. With the success of the vaccination programme, the reduction in cases and the warmer weather approaching, it would be easy to become complacent, but we still need to do all we can to protect our community.

Tomorrow is the International Day of Happiness and Mrs Wilson has found some lovely resources around this theme for the children to do next week. We particularly liked the Happiness Tree and the Family Happiness Recipe which you could complete at home.

Finally, please don't forget that this Sunday is National Census Day: you should have already received a 16 character code by post and you must complete your census by law on 21st March 2021.

Wishing you all a safe and happy weekend.

Best wishes,

Helen Castell

  • Please try to remember to bring everything necessary at the start of the school day - we have seen an increase in lunches, coats and water bottles being dropped in after the bell has gone. This is tricky for the office staff as they cannot enter another bubble, so a member of staff has to leave class to collect items.
  • Please ensure that you are aware of the symptoms of headlice and threadworms and treat your child promptly if necessary. You can follow the links to NHS advice. Both conditions are very common and easily spread, so it pays to be vigilant! Thank you for your support.

This week we have had lots of dragon themed fun. Everyone had the opportunity to write their own adventure about Alina and the moon dragons. They also wrote instructions on How to trap a dragon! We were so impressed with their imaginative ideas. We completed our maths unit on 2D and 3D shapes which the children have enjoyed.

We have published a new activity passport which you can work on over the next few weeks, including the Easter holidays. We look forward to seeing how you get on!

This week we have been learning the ‘Hungry Birdies’ poem. The children have really enjoyed this theme! We have learnt all about birds and listened to their singing and chirping. Many of us went outside to look for different birds and ticked them off on a sheet. Yesterday Angie who cleans our class room came to see us with her white homing pigeons. This was amazing and the children were so excited. They all held one if they wanted to and we watched with delight as they were set free to fly home! We also learned about 3D shapes in maths and continued to play phonics games together. We will be sending the children’s book bags home on Friday to come back next Friday. Please continue to read two books a week on Bug Club too.
